Following Max Holloway’s memorable win over Brian Ortega last weekend, it looks like another pivotal featherweight bout is nearly finalized.
MMA Junkie is reporting that a bout between former 145 king Jose Aldo and fellow contender, Renato “Moicano” is being planned for the UFC’s February 2nd card in Fortaleza, Brazil. MMA Fighting is also reporting that the fight has been verbally agreed to.
This is a somewhat interesting development, considering “Moicano” was the alternate for the Holloway – Ortega bout (it should also be noted he missed weight). So, clearly, the rising contender will need to get by Aldo before receiving a title shot.
This bout could also signal that if Holloway is remaining at 145, then Frankie Edgar could very well be next for the champ.
Aldo (27-4) is coming off a stoppage win over Jeremy Stephens, after dropping consecutive bouts to Holloway. “Moicano” (13-1-1), on the other hand, submitted Cub Swanson in his last outing.
