It hasn’t taken the UFC long to find Joseph Benavidez his next bout, and it’s a doozy of a match-up…

Yes, following his impressive stoppage win over Alex Perez last weekend at the TUF 28 Finale, Benavidez has been booked to fight rising flyweight contender, Deiveson Figueiredo. The two will throw down at UFC 233 on January 26th.

The win over Perez moved Benavidez (26-5) back to the win column, as the perennial contender was coming off a split decision loss to Sergio Pettis in June.

Figueiredo (15-0), meanwhile, has won four straight bouts since he joined the UFC, and in his last outing this past August, he took out John Moraga. As a result, Figueiredo has worked his way into the #5 spot at 125. Benavidez is sitting in the #3 spot.

So, this is a fantastic, flyweight addition to UFC 233. It will be interesting to see, however, whether it’s the last time either man fights at this weight in the Octagon.

UFC 233 will go down in Anaheim, California. In the main event, bantamweight king TJ Dillashaw is moving down to 125 to challenge champ, Henry Cejudo.
