Having returned to the win column this past April, Frankie Edgar is campaigning for a showdown with featherweight champ Max Holloway. But, if that can’t happen, the legend would like to throw hands with Conor McGregor…
Edgar was supposed to fight Holloway this past March, but when the latter withdrew due to injury, Brian Ortega stepped in. Edgar was taken out by the rising star, however, in the opening round. The following month, Edgar rebounded by earning a decision win over Cub Swanson.
Well, following Ortega’s loss to Holloway last weekend at UFC 231, Edgar’s began calling for a scrap with Holloway. Case in point, recently the former lightweight champ told TMZ this (quotes via Bloody Elbow):
”I’m hoping I get Max. I’m hoping Max sticks around at 45, and we get to finally get to square up. I think it makes the most sense,” Edgar said.
“We were supposed to link up, and I think a lot of people talk about that matchup. I don’t think he’s fought someone like myself. I could definitely do some different things in there that Ortega can’t. So that’s what I’m gunning for.”
Edgar also went on to say that if he can’t face Holloway next, then he wants to battle McGregor, noting:
“…It’ll be a shame if I retire down the road and I get my kids and grandkids ask me if I ever fought Conor McGregor and I get to say no. I wanna say yeah.”

How about that? Of course, there’s a lot of people who would like to see Edgar go up against McGregor, but considering the latter’s place in the lightweight division, it’s hard to imagine that fight happening.
And what about a title fight with Holloway? Here too, there’s no question that Holloway – Edgar is a very compelling bout, and it would likely sell very well. But, there’s been talk about Holloway moving up to 155 for a ‘super fight’, so we’ll see what happens.
