Dolly Parton’s Brother Floyd Parton Dies at 61-Year-Old

Country music legend Dolly Parton is in mourning this week after the death of her beloved younger brother, Floyd Parton, who wrote multiple hit songs for her.

Daily Mail reported that Floyd passed away last Thursday at the age of 61.

“A renaissance man, Floyd was a man of many talents and areas of knowledge,” his obituary read. “He was an avid outdoorsman and had an abundant knowledge of nature as well as being an incredible cook.”

Floyd wrote multiple hits for his older sister Dolly, including “Nickels and Dimes” (1978) and “Rockin’ Years” (1991), a duet that Dolly performed with their sister Ricky van Shelton. Floyd was one of twelve siblings in the Parton family, and he is survived by ten of them.

On the day Floyd died, his older sister Stella, also a country music singer, took to Twitter to write about him.

“And Jesus said to him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee,'” she quoted, adding, “Have a beautiful day on this bright and brisk Thursday. I am spending the day with my beautiful brother Floyd.”

Dolly herself has yet to publicly break her silence about Floyd’s death, but given how close she has always been to her family, we can only imagine how difficult this time is for her. Dolly and her siblings grew up in poverty, living in a log cabin in the Smoky Mountains. Their background created a strong bond between them that has lasted a lifetime. No matter how successful she became, Dolly always made sure her siblings remained a huge part of her life.

“I see so much of my family in the things that I do,” she once said. “And I love and embrace that.”
