Liberals these days can twist literally anything into something “offensive.” Now, their latest target is a popular Disney song that millions of people all over the world grew up singing.

Daily Wire reported that in the eyes of the left, the song “Kiss The Girl” from the 1989 Disney animated film “The Little Mermaid” should be banned because it allegedly promotes sexual assault. This past week, the all-male a capella group the Princeton Tigertones at Princeton University were forced to agree to stop performing the song which had been a longstanding tradition for them.

The Tigertones had been performing “Kiss The Girl” for years, with their tradition dictating that they would randomly pick a girl from the audience and “playfully dance with her for a bit” as they sang. They would then randomly choose a male audience member and pretend to groom him before finally putting the couple together and encouraging them to kiss. Inside Higher Ed reported that the couple would do so “with a peck on the cheek, sometimes briefly on the lips.”

The whole performance sounds like harmless good fun, which is undoubtedly why liberals decided it had to be banned immediately. How dare anyone have fun on the left’s watch?!

Princeton Feminist Claims Song Promotes Sexual Assault

Last week, Princeton student Noa Wollstein penned an op-ed for her school newspaper in which she blasted “Kiss The Girl” and called for the Tigertones’ performance to be banned. She wrote that the song itself “is more misogynistic and dismissive of consent than cute.”

“Its lyrics raise some serious issues,” Wollstein continued. “The premise of the song, originally sung in the Disney film The Little Mermaid, is that the male Prince Eric, on a date with the beautiful female Ariel, should kiss her without asking for a single word to affirm her consent. Despite the fact that an evil sea-witch cursed Ariel’s voice away, making verbal consent impossible, the song is clearly problematic from the get-go.”

And Wollstein wasn’t even close to being done. She also said that the song’s lyrics “unambiguously encourage men to make physical advances on women without obtaining their clear consent,” “launches a heteronormative attack on women’s right to oppose the romantic and sexual liberties taken by men,” and promotes “toxic masculinity.”

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that this is a Disney movie about a magical fairy tale, not a serious commentary on consent. Wollstein is also clearly conflating “clear consent” with “verbal consent,” and if she took the time to watch the movie again, she would see that it was obvious that Ariel wanted the kiss because she was in love with Eric. Liberals like Wollstein have essentially made it so that all sex can be defined as rape unless a couple jumps through an absurd number of consent hoops just to make it to first base.

It’s sad that now even a harmless Disney song like this one is being dubbed “offensive,” and it’s also disheartening that a cute college tradition like the one done by the Tigertones for years has now been banned. It often feels like liberals won’t be satisfied until nobody can have any fun or joy anymore. We can only hope that the pendulum will soon start to swing the other way and that liberals will learn to lighten up a bit.
