Tutors are supposed to be intelligent, right? Well, that’s not always the case and it’s definitely not true of 32-year-old math tutor, Mike Manzi. When the television sting operation show “To Catch A Predator” caught up with Manzi, who was operating under the name “Mike Thrilla” online, he was preying on what he thought was a 13-year-old girl.
In texts to the girl, he admitted he knew he shouldn’t be chatting up a young teen.
“Well ur cool and cute too, I just know I could get in trouble even talking to you, you know,” Manzi wrote. Ya think?
He even gets suspicious at one point about who he’s talking to and asks for a picture of her where she is holding something with his name on it to be texted back to him as proof.
What’s most disturbing is that he is so disgustingly excited by the idea of a 13-year-old girl that he quashes his suspicions and heads to her house anyway with a plan to smoke marijuana with her.
Manzi should’ve listened to his conscience because within a minute of entering the sting house, he was standing across the counter from the last man he wanted to see. Manzi’s shock and disbelief is evident as Chris Hansen introduces himself.
Sorry, Mike, but it really was Hansen and the Fairfield Police were waiting in the garage.
The laughable part is when Manzi tries to explain away his appearance at the house as simple concern for a teen girl he knows is alone at home. Sure, and the person to check on her is the strange man on the internet?
Manzi was taken to jail where he was charged with criminal attempt to commit risk of injury to a minor, to which he pled guilty and received a three-year suspended sentence.
