Nothing is official yet, but it looks like Sage Northcutt’s first run with the Ultimate Fighting Championship is over…

Recently the 22-year-old fighter concluded his UFC contract, by taking out welterweight Zak Ottow in the second round. The “Dana White’s Lookin’ For a Fight’ alumni let it be known he intended to test the free agency waters.

Well, recently White was asked about Northcutt during the UFC’s “Unfiltered” podcast, and here’s what he reportedly had to say (quote via MMA Junkie):

“We let Sage go,” White said. “Sage is young, and Sage needs some work. Let him get some work in some other organizations, and we will see where this kid ends up in a couple of years. Maybe we will pick him back up again.”

“His contract was up so we let him go.”

Now, Northcutt supporters would likely point out here that “Super” has won his last three fights. So, while no one was expecting him to content anytime too soon, you have to wonder if his camp’s demands, have impacted White’s take here. In other words, if Northcutt’s management was asking for just a small raise, say, would this be happening? Maybe not.

One thing is for certain, Northcutt will not have to look too far to find another big stage promotion to compete for. Case in point, recently Northcutt headed to Singapore where ONE Championship is headquartered and met with the promotion.
