Star athlete Tim Tebow has gotten a lot of flack for being so open about his Christian faith. Since the entertainment industry is so secular, virtually no celebrities have come forward to defend him from liberals who have criticized him for preaching the word of God.
That’s why it came as a huge surprise when KISS singer Gene Simmons did just that!
Faithtap reported that during an interview with Fox News, Simmons defended Tebow , saying that he has every right to be a proud and open Christian. Here’s what he had to say:
“He’s got a religious passion, as well he should, we’re in America. He’s proud to be a Christian, what’s wrong with that? And yet, with sports media and pop culture media, they make fun of his religion. Really? In America? If he was wearing a burqa, they wouldn’t dare say anything. But if you’re a Christian, you get to be picked on? What the hell? The guy’s got family values. I never saw the media picking on Michael Vick for torturing dogs. Or this other football player, who’s alleged to have killed, committed murder. That’s ‘cool.’ But a guy who’s religious and has got family values isn’t ‘cool?’ He’s cool to me.”
Though he is Jewish himself, Simmons supports Tebow’s right to religious freedom, explaining that “religion is good for mankind.”
It’s incredibly refreshing to see someone like Simmons defend Tebow, who has gone out of his way to use his platform to encourage others to find God. Tons of celebrities use their platforms to promote negative things like sex, drugs, and violence, so what Tebow is doing for his young fans is very important. Given the fact that Hollywood is bashing Christianity left and right these days, we need more stars like Simmons to come forward and remind the public just how positive religion really is.
