Brie and Nikki Bella Speak Out About Women’s Equality

Brie and Nikki Bella spoke out about women’s equality in response to the first ever women’s pay-per-view and because the WWE organized another event in Saudi Arabia despite heavy protests of the WWE Universe and the world overall. While it may have been a shameless promotion for the WWE and their unpopular decision where Saudi Arabia is concerned, I still believe the interview should be mentioned.

The View on Equality

Nikki and Brie Bella appeared on the View. Brie looked stunning as she wore a Supergirl outfit, while Nikki came out powerful as Wonder Woman. During the interview the wrestlers discussed topics such as women’s equality and putting their life in the public spotlight on their numerous reality television shows.

About Women’s Equality

It is no secret that the WWE did not always pay much attention to its female talent. While the women’s wrestling movement started out strong, it eventually turned into stunning women being recruited by the WWE to basically run in beauty contests and mud fights. The women’s wrestling circuit has come a long way indeed.

While things are far from perfect now, there has certainly been an improvement. However, it has not come without hard work and dedication.

“For the past few years — you know, whether it was in sports or in business — us women at WWE wanted to be equal too. We were fighting for equality, and we didn’t have that,”  – Nikki Bella

“We’ve worked so hard. Brie and I have been with WWE for 12 years, and I think of the women before us and the women that were there when we were there and the women after us. And we all had to sweat blood and tears and worked for this day, and for me, it was like the biggest achievement I have ever done in my career,” – Nikki Bella

The Bellas Inspiring Others

Nikki and Brie made it clear they take being a role model for young girls and women around the world seriously. They found it amazing that they could inspire others inside and outside the ring.

“And you know, it kind of puts you in check every year that you’re a role model, when you see all these little girls dressing up like you. And it just makes you want to continue on being that role model,” – Brie Bella.

While there is undoubtedly some corporate veneer surrounding the women, Brie and Nikki have worked hard to be where they are. They have not always been the nicest when it came to supporting their fellow female wrestlers, especially during the time where space was limited (just ask Maryse). However, their presence and prominent role in the WWE is important. They prove women can become major stars in Sports Entertainment and that they are more than capable to build their own empire.
