Backstage News On Brock Lesnar's WWE Future & UFC Plans

After Roman Reigns had to relinquish the Universal Championship to once again battle leukemia, WWE announced that Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman would battle at Crown Jewel for the vacant title. In a short match, Lesnar was able to pin Strowman to begin his second reign as Universal Champion.

The quick match and title going back to Lesnar caught many off-guard. According to the Wrestling Observer Radio, Lesnar’s current deal has two more matches left. One of those meetings will be against AJ Styles at Survivor Series in a rematch from last year. The next logical title defense would either take place in 2019 at the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 35.

So far, nothing has changed about Lesnar heading back to the UFC for at least one more fight. He re-entered the USADA testing pool in early July, meaning can he fight as soon as January 2019. As of now, Lesnar is yet to officially sign a UFC contract but has teased fights with Jon Jones and UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier.

Also, WWE is not looking at the Crown Jewel match as a squash. Instead, they were trying to sell how it took several F5s to finally put Strowman down for the three count. This makes Strowman 0-2 against Lesnar in singles action.

Personally, the match felt like a squash and fans were not happy to see a part-time wrestler once again holding the gold. It could be that WWE wants to wait until WrestleMania 35 to finally put the Universal Championship on Strowman. In the meantime, the RAW brand is now basically left without a fighting a champion.
