Anthony Smith continued his thrilling rise up the light-heavyweight ranks tonight, as “Lionheart” scored a submission win over Volkan Oezdemir at UFC Moncton.
As expected would be the case, both fighters came out pressuring and firing off a steady stream of strikes. Smith also teased a couple of takedowns early on, however, and the action moved to the Octagon fence.
In round two, Oezdemir appeared to be getting the better of the exchanges, particularly with leg kicks, and he took Smith down later in the frame. Although he was unable to land any really, punishing shots, he did control the action for the remainder of the round.
In round three, Smith proceeded to take Oezdemir down after several exchanges on the feet, and eventually sunk in a fight ending, rear-naked-choke. It’s Smith’s third straight win since he moved up to 205 from the middleweight division.
