Just when you thought this month couldn’t get any more interesting, in terms of MMA news, it’s being reported that the UFC and ONE Championship are working on a Demetrious Johnson – Ben Askren trade…
Yes, following an initial discussion about the swap on MMA Junkie Radio, ESPN is reporting that multiple sources have confirmed that the trade is close to being finalized. Johnson would be released from the UFC, so he can sign with ONE, and Askren would do the opposite.
Askren has repeatedly talked about his wish to fight the UFC’s top stars, like Georges St-Pierre, and Johnson’s longtime coach, Matt Hume, is ONE’s vice president of operations. Johnson’s teammate, and jiu-jitsu instructor, Bibiano Fernandes, is also ONE’s bantamweight champ.
Obviously this would be an historic event, if it indeed, transpires.
