Derrick Lewis

Before Derrick Lewis took out Alexander Volkov at UFC 229, Curtis Blaydes claimed he would cruise through either heavyweight. So what does Lewis think of the rising heavyweight’s comments?

For much of his bout with Volkov on Saturday night, it looked like Lewis was headed to a defeat. But, with the final horn just moments away, the heavy handed fighter cracked Volkov with several, booming punches to complete the comeback KO.

Well, during the bout, Blaydes tweeted out this comment:

And after the fight, Lewis had this to say in return (quote via MMA Junkie):

“Curtis Blaydes just playing fish right now,” Lewis said. “He wants me to say something back to him, and say, ‘OK, let me fight Curtis Blaydes next.’ Which, he’s behind me, instead of me saying, ‘OK, I want the title shot.’ That’s all he’s doing, just trying to play – he don’t want me to fight for the title next, he wants to get a shot at me before anyone does. That’s all it is, but (expletive) Curtis Blaydes.”

There you have it. Could we see Blaydes and Lewis fight in the coming months? It’s possible, although, Blaydes has to get by Francis Ngannou, on November 24th first.
