When they met back at UFC 194, Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold were two of the best middleweights in the world. In fact, Weidman was the champ… before Rockhold smashed him and took his belt.

Since then, Rockhold crapped the bed against Michael Bisping, and has been plagued by injuries ever since.

Meanwhile, Weidman struggled to find a win in the Octagon, and after losing to Gegard Mousasi and Yoel Romero, finally beat Kelvin Gastelum.

So. The two were finally supposed to rematch in the co-main event of UFC 230 – you know, the UFC’s next, big Madison Square Garden show. But then Rockhold bowed out due to injury.

In case you forgot, these cats were supposed to face each other again before, but it was Weidman who suffered the bout-derailing injury.

I think it’s safe to say that, like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, the Gods of War don’t want these two ever clashing in the cage, so it’s never going to happen again.

It’s also safe to say… who cares if they do or do not fight again? They may still be elite fighters, but their championship days are likely behind them due to all the wear and tear their bodies have suffered. And the world won’t cease spinning on its axis if they never fight.

Weidman is likely facing Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza now at UFC 230, and here’s the former champ wishing Rockhold a speedy recovery.
