veteran groceries wwyd

Our veterans put their lives on the line for us, but when one of them is having an issue, how likely is it that a stranger will help? A North Carolina veteran put this to the test at a grocery store as hidden cameras filmed it all. This episode of “What Would You Do?” put patriotic Americans to the test when a veteran was in need of a little help.

A cash-strapped veteran named Derrick was unable to pay for his groceries after his credit card was declined. The Army veteran previously told the cashier that he was having a hard time adjusting to civilian life. North Carolina prides itself on being military friendly so this was a test to see if the reputation held up.

The groceries included items such as baby food, diapers, mac & cheese, hamburger meat and pasta sauce. They were staples and not extravagant purchases. “What Would You Do?” host John Quinones prefaced the interactions by asking the audience, “Will other customers rally to his aid or will they let him be an army of one?”

Time after time, other shoppers stepped up to help the veteran. A man who didn’t have much money of his own was not about to let this military family go without baby food. He realized Derrick served our country and deserved dignity and respect as well as a helping hand.

When the veteran in need mentions that he is having trouble looking for work, an older veteran behind him offers him help with his job search. Then, when he noticed the bill could not be paid, he helped out again. These North Carolina shoppers proved their state is indeed military friendly as you will see in the encouraging video below.

What an encouraging video to watch. Not only are there resources to help our veterans, but plenty of civilians want to help as well.
