A UPS driver who pulled his truck over and halted his work to pay respect to an officer’s funeral procession is inspiring a lot of people.

Captain Paul Phillips was a veteran of the Bartlett Police Department for 26 years. He gave over a quarter of a century of service to the people of his Tennesse town. That is why the UPS driver’s show of respect has special meaning. Not many people today take time to pay tribute to someone in uniform. They think of funeral processions as an inconvenience, but this UPS driver stopped to thank a man in blue who he likely didn’t even know.

Haley Harris Smith’s husband Aaron was in the processional for Captain Phillips. He noticed the UPS driver pull his truck over and stand at attention as the officer’s remains went to their final destination. A picture she posted of the respectful driver has gone viral.

UPS driver

This simple gesture has touched a lot of people, not only in Bartlett, Tennessee but throughout the country as well. Our police officers deserve more respect than they are currently being given. They put their lives on the line to protect and serve us. That is why it’s so important that people are taking notice of this UPS driver’s actions.

The Bartlett Police Department noted how important Phillips was to the community on the department’s Facebook page.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we notify the community of the passing of Captain Paul Phillips,” the department wrote. “Captain Phillips faithfully served our community with the Bartlett Police Department since January 1st, 1992. He passed away in the morning of July 11, 2018, at his home. Always joking and eager to make everyone laugh, Captain Phillips was loved by everyone who knew him. Please remember to keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
