officer comforts little girl

Five-year-old Xyleigh was tempted by candy at the grocery store and her mom caught her trying to steal it. When the young girl wasn’t heeding her mom’s lecture about stealing, she had a law enforcement officer come over to help. Now, people can’t get enough of his kind approach with the little girl.

Sharae Sanders-Schmitt recorded the interaction after she asked Texas State Trooper Cpl. Tyson Metzig to talk to her daughter. Xyleigh was afraid of what would happen next. The 5-year-old sat in her car seat and cried, refusing to look up. But, the trooper wasn’t giving up. He calmly explained that everyone makes mistakes, but it’s important to learn from them.

Xyleigh kept trying to avoid eye contact with Metzig. Your first interaction with the police can be scary, especially if you have stolen something! But, with some perseverance and a calm demeanor, it was clear by the end that Xyleigh had learned her lesson about stealing and that the police are our friends!

Sharae was very grateful that Metzig agreed to speak with her daughter. She was thrilled with the outcome. “He did not try to scare her at all!! As a matter of fact, the best words I could have heard come out of his mouth today was: ‘You don’t have to be scared of me” and “We all make mistakes. Even I do,” she wrote on Facebook.

With so many people trying to attack or smear police officers, it’s wonderful to see an officer being praised for doing a great job. If you support our police, you will love the video below! It ends on a wonderful note!

Sharae didn’t get the trooper’s badge number to properly thank him, but her video quickly went viral and she was able to locate him. Trooper Metzig is now getting overwhelming recognition for a job well done!

Stories like this one and the little girl who prayed with police officers at a restaurant are important to share. We need to spread positive and encouraging stories about those who protect us!

Share this if you support our law enforcement officers!
