Some five days after being released from NXT, Mae Young Classic competitor Zeda Zhang made her independent debut at Major League Wrestling’s (MLW) Fusion TV tapings.

Zeda debuted alongside Impact Wrestling’s Su Yung. The pair appeared before the start of Ariel Rodriguez vs. Jake Sky and decimated the two men in the ring.

Who Is Zeda Zhang?

Zeda – real name Julia Ho – is a mixed martial artist from Richmond, Virginia. She participated in a WWE tryout session in September 2016 and WWE signed Ho to a developmental contract in January 2017. In between her tryout and her signing, she trained at the Santino Brothers Academy in California.

However, despite a promising start, Zeda never got off the ground in NXT. She entered the inaugural Mae Young Classic but was fed to Shayna Baszler in the first round. Her only other appearances on NXT TV came in a losing effort against Sonya Deville in August 2017, and an NXT Women’s Championship qualifying battle royal in October 2017. Her final match with NXT was at a house show in March 2018, in which she lost to Sage Beckett – another Mae Young Classic competitor who was released this year.

Zeda’s limited experience makes it all the more surprising that MLW was so quick to snatch her up. However, immediately following her release she attended an open training session at the Team Vision Dojo in Orlando.

Wrestling Inc. reported Wednesday that Zeda would begin working for Team Vision’s I Believe In Wrestling promotion once her 30-day non-compete clause with WWE expires. Which begs the question: did she break the provision by appearing at MLW?

Whatever the case, it’s clear that Zeda isn’t done with pro wrestling just yet.
