It appears that CM Punk has changed his mind about a career in the octagon, at least according to British newspaper “Metro.” While CM Punk barely mentioned wrestling since he started out in the MMA, he is now scheduled to appear for a wrestling meet & greet! Could this mean he is returning to the squared circle?
Despite distancing himself from wrestling, CM Punk has agreed to an autograph signing at the Pro Wrestling Tees retail store. The autograph signing will take place a day before All In, a wrestling event headlined by the likes of the Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, and Kenny Omega. WONDERFUL!
There is no doubt in my mind that this is a strategic move to boost interest for All In. Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, and the Young Bucks already sold 10,000 tickets for the Chicago Event. So, having CM Punk do a meet & greet a day before this event certainly won’t hurt ticket sales!
They are playing on people’s desire to see CM Punk wrestle again. However, we must consider that CM Punk is currently training for his second MMA fight against Mike Jackson in July 2018. Still, with the event scheduled in September, many believe CM Punk has his sights set on wrestling once again.
While I am not a fan of CM Punk on a personal level, mainly because I find the man unbelievably arrogant, he is a fantastic wrestler. The WWE indeed lost a significant talent here, and they have nobody else to blame but themselves.
Even though it is unlikely CM Punk will ever return to the WWE, there is certainly room for him on the Indie circuit. Just look how well things are going for Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega. There is money in it, and I believe Punk will do well on this circuit as well.
The epic saga between CM Punk and the WWE is far from over. The wrestling promotion and former WWE superstar are currently embroiled in a court case, which came after CM Punk accused WWE physician Chris Amann of not providing him with the right treatment for his back injury.
Punk made his statements against Dr. Chris Amann during Colt Cabana’s podcast in November 2014. Dr. Amann responded by filing a lawsuit against both parties. Since no settlement was reached between Punk, Cabana, and Amann, the case is now going to court.
While Punk is going to court against a single WWE physician, I can almost guarantee that the WWE is backing Amann with some serious money and an excellent legal team. Remember, it would look bad on them to have a physician with a poor reputation. I wonder how this one will play out?
