This is the first in a series of articles where the writers of Ringside Intel introduce ourselves and explain how we became fans of wrestling! First up, our Belgian-British Superfan Sandra Dedeyne!
Who Am I?
My name is Sandra Dedeyne. I was born in Belgium in a small city called Torhout. I studied Veterinary Science at the University of Ghent, with the intent of becoming a veterinarian. However, I met a lovely man from London approximately 7 years ago. This prompted me to pack up and move to the UK permanently.
I’ve been quite sportive over the years; this from playing volleyball from a young age, trying horseback riding, to being a dancer and traveling the world with my dance team at the time, JS Dancepower. So, I can certainly appreciate athletes who work hard to achieve the top of their profession.
I am now a journalist and translator but am also in the process of obtaining my degree in personal training. Exercise has become a passion of mine, and aside from being a journalist and translator, I would love to help other people obtain the healthy body they deserve. Body image is everything these days, but I hate to see women and men resorting to surgery and even starving themselves to “look good”. I believe health is beautiful, not looking like a skeleton with no energy.
How Did I Get Into Wrestling?
I always have been fascinated by wrestling, but when I was growing up, wrestling was not such a big thing in Belgium. It still isn’t, to be honest. There was no WWE network and sports channels were something you would pay extra for. Growing up with only two television channels, it became nearly impossible for me to become passionate about wrestling earlier in life.
Everything changed when I met my other half seven years ago. He grew up with wrestling during the Attitude Era, so he was more than happy to show me the likes of the Undertaker, Chris Jericho, D-Generation X, and of course Chyna. Even though those wrestlers already pulled me over the proverbial line, the one that got me hooked was Rey Mysterio. Being only 5 ft 2 myself, the idea that such a small man could be so big in the wrestling world was something I could stand behind!
Who Is My Favorite Wrestler?
Well, Rey Mysterio is certainly on the top of my list. But there are loads more wrestlers I love. I adore a good work ethic, but also people who are not afraid to show their sensitive side to the world. So, my favorite wrestlers at this time are Charlotte, Chris Jericho, Paige, Asuka, the Miz, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, and Matt Hardy.
The Wrestlers I Dislike?
Brock Lesnar. I don’t really have to explain this, you only have to read my posts to figure out why. Lol.
