The Greatest Royal Rumble may be set to be a good pay-per-view, but as a woman, it does leave a bad taste in my mouth. While I respect the culture of Saudi Arabia, the concept of women not having the same rights as men have always been a touchy subject for me. So, it does not mean I have to agree with it.

Many people seem to agree with me, as media channels across the world have discussed the subject of the Greatest Royal Rumble and the lack of female wrestlers. Triple H has also defended the WWE’s decision to have a pay-per-view in Saudi without female wrestlers.

Let us look a little more in depth at the issues this pay-per-view brings and why many people believe the WWE should not hold a pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia.

Ten Year Deal

Before elaborating on the event, it is important to realise that the WWE has engaged in a controversial ten year deal with Saudi Arabia. While the WWE has already stated they hope women will wrestle in Saudi over the next couple of years, the fact women are not allowed to perform in Saudi Arabia is sending many people into a tailspin.

Here is what Triple H has said about WWE’s decision to host events in Saudi Arabia:

“I understand that people are questioning it, but you have to understand that every culture is different and just because you don’t agree with a certain aspect of it, it doesn’t mean it’s not a relevant culture. You can’t dictate to a country or a religion about how they handle things, but having said that, WWE is at the forefront of a women’s evolution in the world, and what you can’t do is effect change anywhere by staying away from it.”

Real Motivations to Host in Saudi Arabia?

Many media channels, including Forbes, believes that the WWE’s real motivation for hosting the event is a big money deal. The country is currently reducing its reliance on oil for income, so having more significant sports events could help them achieve that.

The government of Saudi Arabia has funds at their disposal to pull bigger events. I have no doubt that the price for getting the Greatest Royal Rumble to Saudi Arabia was incredibly high, which would explain why the WWE has chosen to do the controversial event.

The Strength of Female Wrestlers

Anyone can argue with me about culture, and why women are not allowed, that does not make it okay. It’s a pure business decision, fine, but do not try to fool fans with business statements that do not make any sense whatsoever!

As a woman, I experienced first-hand what it is like to be seen as “less” compared to a man. This must be devastating for the female wrestlers of the WWE, who deserve the spotlight for their hard work and dedication.

Money talks much louder than common sense again in the male corporate world of the WWE. However, you will not break us. You will not stop us. We are equal and strong! So, take your dollars and lay in the emptiness of your skewered morals.
