Velveteen Dream Gives A Very Strange Interview

Velveteen Dream is one of the breakout stars of NXT’s current crop of onscreen talent, and a recent interview proves that he was born to entertain.

Speaking with SportsNet, Dream appeared in his usual Prince-esque attire and referred to himself in the third person as he explained that he doesn’t believe in the word “relax” (transcript courtesy of Fightful):

“He does not relax, he does not know what that word means. You’re going to have to give him a definition because ‘relax’ is foreign to the Dream. It’s about hard work. That’s how I got to where I am today and that’s why people love the Dream.”

Dream also gave a pretty fantastic response as to why he doesn’t have any merchandise for his fans:

“I don’t like the word ‘fan.’ Fan is short for fanatic. Everyone who follows the Dream is a supporter more or less. Supporters are where the heart is, they don’t need merch. They don’t need to show their affection by wearing sandwich boards on their bodies, logos. People who support the Dream are a little bit more sophisticated than that. All you have to do is say his name.”

Dream has really impressed me lately. I wasn’t sold on him until his super creepy and sometimes uncomfortable feud with Aleister Black, and ever since then, he’s proven time and time again that he’s completely dedicated to his craft. Not only does he appear to be in character 24/7, but over the last few weeks, he’s built a potential feud with Ricochet entirely over Twitter.

Plus, the guy’s only 22 years old; he made his professional wrestling debut at age 19 with Maryland Championship Wrestling after just four months of training and was signed by WWE just a year later. Clearly, he’s a preternatural talent, and it’s safe to say he can back up all the smack talk he’s delivering to WWE’s “indie guys.”
