Well, as if this Wrestlemania season couldn’t get even MORE nuts, it looks like we’re getting another last-minute change to the Wrestlemania card. Perhaps. After Daniel Bryan’s surprise return to in-ring action last week, it seemed to be the plan that he and Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon would get their revenge against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in a tag-team match at Wrestlemania. But, if this story from WWE.com checks out, Shane McMahon might be out of the match after suffering a fairly serious injury and illness. All of this stems from Zayn and Owen’s brutal attack on McMahon on the March 13th Smackdown.

WWE medical staff initially diagnosed him with a laryngeal contusion and trapezius and rhomboid strains as a result of the beating.

But it got a lot worse. Shane went on vacation to rest, but things took a turn.

While there, Shane developed a massive infection due to acute diverticulitis and was hospitalized for several days in Antigua before being flown back to a New York-area hospital, where he is currently being treated with heavy doses of antibiotics. The doctors in New York have also discovered that Shane suffered an umbilical hernia during the attack, which will require surgery once the infection has been eradicated.

Diverticulitis is the inflammation of small pouches in the intestinal tract and can be caused by an infection. Brock Lesnar suffered from it and it led to the end of his UFC career.

Is this Shane McMahon injury real? (update: yes, it is)

I have no idea. I am leaning towards believing it. This is a lot of detail to get into if this is just a “work.” Also, making an announcement like this on Monday instead of Tuesday when Smackdown is taped leads me to believe it is for real.

If it is real, this means Daniel Bryan is without a tag partner. Who will replace Shane McMahon? There are a few wrestlers sitting on the shelf waiting for a return from injury. Samoa Joe, Big Cass, and Jeff Hardy are all slated to return after Wrestlemania. None of them could really fit into the feud. Samoa Joe conceivably could as he was the first wrestler Owens feuded with when he debuted in NXT. Maybe Kane comes back to re-form Team Hell No?

Or, and this is especially crazy, it could be Vince McMahon. Remember this all escalated when KO headbutted and busted Vince open. Having the chairman and Daniel Bryan team-up is something so crazy that if it happened on a video game people would turn it off for being unrealistic. This could also be some 3-D chess way of Vince messing with Brock on his way out of the company.

It is wrestling though, anything can happen.

**Update March 27th** Shane McMahon updated us on his condition.

We will keep you updated on this story as it develops.
