Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt Delight Fans With Ultimate Deletion

The Great War has finally ended on Monday Night RAW, coming to a close last night in the sports entertainment splendor known as Ultimate Deletion. Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt collided in Cameron, North Carolina at the Hardy Compound to close RAW and everything around Ultimate Deletion – from segments promoting the match all night to the event itself – was simply, well, dee-light-ful.

The feud between Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt started off slow and somewhat lacked luster. Did the WWE drop the ball on the WOKEN character that built up so much momentum years earlier while on Impact Wrestling? Many thought so; however, last night’s Ultimate Deletion may have shut up all nay-sayers moving forward. What was it about the brawl on a vast (and crazy) compound in the middle of nowhere, with two insane individuals and a referee that has everyone buzzing on social media this morning?

Simply put, with all the hype and promotion placed into Ultimate Deletion, the WWE delivered. Not only as a closing RAW match, but for the WOKEN Matt Hardy character in general.

Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt’s Ultimate Deletion last night brought in all the components that WWE fans were looking forward to when the much-anticipated WOKEN character finally arrived on the scene. The slow start to their rivalry could be blamed on the fact that the WWE didn’t promote their first match on RAW’s 25th Anniversary, could be blamed on too many onscreen promos between the two and not enough face-to-face; I blame it on the fact that while WOKEN Matt is awesome, he lacked his supporting cast. Last night, we got a good picture of all those people and things who play an incredible role in WOKEN/BROKEN. All stable mates made an appearance and tied the WOKEN Universe together: Matt’s queen, Reby, Senor Benjamin, and despite being away from the WWE spectrum for a while now, fans marked out when Jeff Hardy’s Brother Nero taunted a breaking Bray Wyatt while holding a globe in his hands. The WWE Universe got a nice view of the majestic, yet convoluted, Hardy Compound, as well as Vanguard 1, the Lake of Reincarnation, and the dilapidated boat.

Yes, BROKEN was there in all its incredible and riddle-like amazingness, but Bray Wyatt also provided a stellar performance. The one thing that struck me was while there was less wrestling and more wonder about, the storytelling last night was on point. Not only were WWE audiences formally introduced to the BROKEN/WOKEN family, the compound, and their wonderful insanity; WWE pulled from Bray Wyatt’s own story and history, showing the barn and the memory around Randy Orton’s burning of it and Sister Abigail, a key component into the Wyatt character being *almost* broken once before and adding to Matt Hardy’s mind games to succumb the cult leader.

Moreover, the cinematography during Ultimate Deletion was off the chain and whoever directed this piece deserves a hats-off. The direction that both men took while weaving in and out of the compound, the video angles captured, all while adding some wrestling in the mix, was entertaining. Their comments to each other here and there, the drone buzzing around, which added to the mental games being thrown Bray’s way; it was like an insect, flying near Wyatt’s body that he wanted to rid, but simply could not squash. The ending where Matt hit his Twist of Fate, gained the pin, and then threw Wyatt into lake, where Senor Benjamin couldn’t find him, was a nice ending and offered that final chapter of Hardy officially deleting Wyatt.

All those quirky, crazy, insane, and ridiculous layers that fans ate up during BROKEN’s Impact run were there last night and while the match offered more flash than wrestling, it was incredible nonetheless. The fact that fans, for the most part, enjoyed it could very well mean that we’ll be seeing more of the WOKEN Hardys and their infamous compound, especially with the WWE Universe applauding Ultimate Deletion and hitting social media to do so.

Either way, Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt, along with the slew of others that pulled this Ultimate Deletion, should be proud of closing such an incredible closing segment on Monday Night RAW last night. It was WON-der-FUL!
