Candace Cameron Bure Shares The Secret To Her 22-Year Marriage

It seems like marriages these days aren’t built to last, and Hollywood marriages are particularly fragile. But actress Candace Cameron Bure has been happily married to her husband, former NHL player Valeri Bure, for more than 20 years – and she recently revealed that their Christian faith is the “glue” that keeps them together.

Cameron Bure shared the “secret” to her marriage at the Kids’ Choice Awards on Sunday:

“The reality is the glue for us is Jesus,” she said. “It’s the Bible. You know, when there are arguments or we’re compromising and in ways, it’s always like, ‘Well, let’s just go back to the Bible.’ It’s the foundation for us. So it’s not about winning or losing. But doing this journey together.”

What a beautiful mindset to have, to make the Bible the foundation of your marriage. It’s refreshing to see a celebrity marriage based on faith when the rest of Hollywood seems to have fallen completely faithless.

Cameron Bure also shared some other secrets to her successful marriage, including quality alone time spent with her husband. She and Valeri recently returned from a getaway to Switzerland:

“We had a little five-day vacation, so that was wonderful. We do like to travel and get away from everything here at home in L.A., and from our kids, as much as we love them. We want alone time, you know what I mean? And our kids are older, too.”

Additionally, Cameron Bure said that she believes it’s important for parents to “engage with your kids constantly” in order to keep the family unit strong:

I talk with [my kids] nonstop from really kind of intense and deep conversations to the fluffy stuff and the day-to-day,” she said. “But it’s important to let them know that you’re there for them no matter what. As a mom, I’m always going to have an opinion, but not in a judgmental way, if that makes sense. I’m going to give my best advice as a mother, or my husband as a father. But we want to be open enough that they don’t feel scared to be able to talk to us.”

Cameron Bure is right. Too many parents these days are either too concerned with being their children’s “friend” or not present in their lives at all. That’s not how it should be. Moms should be moms and dads should be dads, and when husbands and wives find their marriage in crisis, they would do well to remember the Bible.
