WWE’s Four Horsewomen may have put NXT’s women’s division on the map, but now that they’re all on the main roster there’s still quite a bit of raw female talent down in NXT just itching to get their hands on the NXT Women’s Championship.
One of those women is one half of the Iconic Duo, Peyton Royce. Here are five fast facts you should know.
5. She Was Trained By Lance Storm
Believe it or not, Emma wasn’t the only Australian WWE Superstar trained by Lance Storm – he trained Peyton Royce, as well. Born in Sydney, Australia, Royce began her training down under before moving to Calgary (DRAMATIC PAUSE) Alberta, Canada to attend the Storm Wrestling Academy. She competed in numerous independent wrestling promotions across both Australia and North America before signing with WWE in 2015.
4. She Went To The Same High School As Billie Kay
Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, collectively known as the Iconic Duo, weren’t just thrown together because they’re both Australian – they actually went to the same high school. Royce and Kay both attended Westfield Sports High School, a dedicated sports high school located just outside Sydney. According to the school’s Wikipedia page , students of the school must “either live within the relatively small catchment area of the school or demonstrate their ability in some sport.” Prior to pursuing wrestling, Royce excelled in dance.
3. She’s Dating Tye Dillinger
Royce is one of the few WWE Superstars who’s managed to keep her personal life very private, and chances are you had no idea that she’s dating fellow Superstar Tye Dillinger. The two met in NXT and have reportedly been dating more than three years. There are next to no pictures of them together on social media, but they both frequently post photos of their dog, a miniature pinscher named Sheriff.
2. Eddie Guerrero Inspired Her To Start Wrestling
Sasha Banks has some competition for her undying love of Eddie Guerrero, as Royce told WWE that Guerrero is who inspired her to start wrestling.
Someone who inspired me from the very first time I saw him was Eddie Guerrero. Oh my God, I can still watch everything he’s done. He made you believe everything he said and did. For me, he was the one.
Of course, many wrestlers count Guerrero among their heroes, so it’s no surprise that Royce idolizes him.
1. She Found Out WWE Was Interested Through An Email
While there’s likely not a typical protocol WWE has in offering contracts, Royce revealed that she found out WWE was interested in her via email, seven weeks after receiving a tryout:
I got an email. They had said at the tryout that we’d hear back from them in six to eight weeks. I marked it off my calendar. At the seven week mark, I emailed Lance saying I hadn’t heard anything yet, but I was going to be in Florida, so should I pop my head in and say hello? He said, “Go do that, keep your face familiar.”
Literally the next morning I woke up and had an email. I’ll never forget it; the first line said, “WWE is interested in hiring you.” This was at 6 a.m., so I was getting ready for work. I started crying hysterically and running around the house to find the first person I could. I couldn’t get the words out to tell them why I was crying. I woke the entire house up. We were all huddled in this small bathroom and they were trying to work out why I was crying. I finally had to show them the email. I kept saying, “I did it.” They thought someone had died the way I was crying. It was a really cool morning.
And the rest is Iconic history.
