Rapper Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, is one of the most successful rappers in the country, with a career spanning more than 25 years. Throughout his illustrious career, Diddy has released five studio albums and has appeared in countless movies.

Now, it appears that Diddy wants to expand his influence, moving from the entertainment industry to the NFL, announcing that he wants to buy the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are currently owned by Jerry Richardson, who is selling the team amidst allegations of sexual harassment and the use of racial slurs.

Diddy claims that he is interested in buying the Panthers, not for himself, but to help black America. In a recent interview with “The Breakfast Club,” Diddy explained that “It was never about me buying the Panthers, it was always about we. It was always about we need a team. I jumped out there to make sure that they understood that they have to consider some black ownership right now with 80%, 70% of the league being African-American. It’s just time.”

Right now, there are no owners in the NFL that are African American, but Diddy has no ties to the Carolinas, which has worried many about Diddy’s true intentions regarding his potential purchase of the team.

Richardson was the first former-NFL player to own a team and he was born and raised in North Carolina. Richardson’s ties to the Carolinas were clear and he helped bring in millions of dollars in economic growth to the city of Charlotte and neighboring communities.

While Diddy’s motivations may be admirable, the Panthers should want an owner whose primary focus are the fans in North and South Carolina. Military veteran Wayne Dupree agrees and believes that Diddy is not the best candidate to purchase the Panthers.
