Disabled Dog

One disabled dog got a fresh start, thanks to the work of a South Carolina-based technology company. A company called 3D Systems has helped Derby walk normally for the first time in his life, according to the Daily Dot.

Derby, a mixed-breed, who looks like a husky, was born with a congenital deformity that left him with small forelegs and no front paws. Before 3D Systems came on the scene, the dog couldn’t walk properly, and could only manage soft surfaces.

From CNET:

Derby’s initial artificial legs were purposefully designed to keep him close to the ground in front. “Derby’s first pair of prosthetics was not only a concept test for the feasibility of the overall design, it also started the process of acclimating Derby to a new elevation,” 3D Systems noted in a December 29 update on Derby’s progress.

Derby’s first prosthetics had a rounded designed. 3D Systems attempted to simply create a larger version of the originals to raise the pooch up to a normal height, but the result was too ungainly for Derby to use comfortably.

Technology is getting very advanced, and it’s causing us to do double takes when we see miracles like this.

This is a heart-warming story that everyone should love and SHARE. I felt sorry for this beautiful dog earlier in the story, but I have a lot more hope after learning about his transformation.

This story made my day. I believe one of the things that make dogs so special is that they make it easy for humans to do unselfish, kind actions. If we are willing to go to great lengths to help a dog, there’s no limit to what we will do to help other people!

Derby is officially the coolest dog of all time. Just look at that wagging tail and the “smile” on his face! I hope he lives a long, healthy life. This 3D printer was a life-saver!

I hope that more dogs can have their lives improved by the technology developed by 3D Systems. No animal should suffer in life and this device could help countless animals in need!
