Netflix Renews ‘GLOW’ For Second Season!

The wait is over: Netflix finally announced Thursday that it will renew its popular wrestling dramedy GLOW for a second season:

Netflix officially announced the renewal of GLOW for a second season today, also confirming that the show will contain ten episodes, much like season 1. There is currently no specified date for when GLOW season 2 may premiere, but it will presumably return sometime in 2018, should it follow similar Netflix originals release schedules.

This is fantastic news for fans of women’s wrestling and the short-lived 80’s show Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, upon which the Netflix show is based. I binge-watched the entire first season of GLOW as soon as I could; and while it was more about the drama between the characters than it was about wrestling, showrunner Jenji Kohan did right by wrestling fans. Several active wrestlers had cameos, including Johnny Mundo (f.k.a. John Morrison), Alex Riley, Tyrus (f.k.a. Brodus Clay), Carlito, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Joey Ryan.

Even more exciting, an actual wrestler plays one of the GLOW ladies: Kia Stevens – a.k.a. Awesome Kong, a.k.a. Kharma – portrays Tammé Dawson, whose in-ring persona Welfare Queen **SPOILER ALERT** ends the first season by stealing the GLOW Crown from Liberty Belle, thus securing her spot at the promotion’s top villain.

For the record, I had no idea that Welfare Queen was Awesome Kong until writing this article. She looks completely different.

If you haven’t yet watched the first season of GLOW, I highly recommend it. Cheers to a second season!
