George Strait marriage

George Strait is best known for being a country mega-star. But, his biggest accomplishment is his family. He’s been married to Norma for 44 years. That’s a rarity in the music industry.

A central part of the Straits’ marriage is their Christian faith. It guides them through the good and the bad times. When their 13 year old daughter Jenifer was killed in a car accident in 1986, they leaned hard on each other and their faith in God.

After Jenifer died, Strait skipped celebrity speaking engagements and interviews. He just wanted to be with his family. He wanted to work but also ensure that his personal life was private. He wanted to be close with Norma and their son Bubba.

George explained how he maintains a separate personal and professional life. “We’ve learned to cope with the fact that the George Strait on stage is an image.  And the one at home with my wife and Bubba is a family-loving man,” he said.  “You’ve got to keep the stage world and your real world separated or you’re headed for trouble.  In other words, you can’t live out the songs you sing.”

George used his music as a way to grieve. He recorded, “You’ll Be There,” in tribute of his daughter. The song has a religious theme for a reason. “That song hit home for me for obvious reasons. I’m a religious person. I honestly believe we will see each other in Heaven someday,” Strait said. You can hear that song and see some pictures below.

Nothing will ever heal the pain from losing a child but faith in God and the belief of being reunited in Heaven can help provide some solace.
