Aric Almirola

NASCAR driver Aric Almirola has been released from the hospital following his collision with Joey Logano on Saturday at the Go Bowling 400 at Kansas Speedway and his grandfather, Sam Rodriguez, provided an update on his status.

The crash began with 60 laps to go when Joey Logano came down and clipped Danica Patrick sending both of them into the wall. Just moments later, Almirola’s iconic #43 comes roaring in from off screen and slams into both Logano and Patrick.

Logano and Patrick were able to walk away from accident, but Almirola had to be removed by NASCAR safety officials who cut into his car to get to him. Almirola was then airlifted to a nearby hospital following the horrific wreck, which you can see in the video below.

Joey offered his prayers for Almirola following the wreck.

According to Richard Petty Motorsports, Almirola flew home to Moorseville, North Carolina after he was released from a local hospital in Kansas. He suffered a compression fracture in his back.

Almirola’s grandfather, Sam Rodriguez, posted an update on social media:

“The news today was good news. He’s home. He’s walking. He’ll be going to the doctor tomorrow to get more diagnosed on exactly what procedures have to happen from here. We really don’t know anything at this point other than that he has a T5 fracture.”

This is glorious news!
