Simon Gotch, former NXT Tag Champion, and a member of the Smackdown roster has been granted his release from WWE, according to Pro Wrestling Sheet.

WWE released the following statement:

WWE has come to terms on a mutually agreed upon release with Simon Gotch as of today, April 5, 2017. WWE wishes Gotch the best in all his future endeavors.

Gotch (real name John Smith) and his partner Aiden English were a big hit in NXT as the Vaudvillains. The throw way-way-back team won the NXT tag belts and famously teamed with surprise NXT darling Blue Pants. However once they were called up to the main roster, they were never used beyond enhancement talent.

Gotch also got into some trouble backstage and was sent home following an altercation with Sin Cara.

We expect to see Gotch on the indies soon. Before signing with WWE he had previously worked for major independent promotions Chikara and PWG.

No word yet on what this means for Aiden English, his tag partner. English had a brief heel run in NXT as an annoying wannabe Broadway star. He would sing coming to and from the ring and the Full Sail audience took a big liking to him.

Perhaps this will push the crooner back into a singles run.
