If the UFC signs off on Conor McGregor boxing Floyd Mayweather, it sounds like the promotion’s going to have its hands full, if they don’t let Nate Diaz step into the squared circle too…

Nate and his brother Nick Diaz have expressed an interest in professional boxing for quite some time now, and both men are received plenty of praise for their abilities in the sweet science. But, since both men are under contract with the UFC, a transition into pro-boxing hasn’t taken place.

Well, earlier this year, eyebrows were raised when it was reported that Nate is attempting to get his boxing license in Nevada. The news came at a time when talk / speculation about a boxing bout between McGregor and Mayweather was already in full swing.

Recently Nate spoke with Garnek Sports, and while doing so, he said this about his boxing aspirations (quote via Bloody Elbow):

“I tried to get my boxing license years ago,” Diaz said. “Some boxing promoters were trying to buy my contract from the UFC, (but) the UFC was not letting me go. But now they’re talking about the McGregor-Mayweather stuff. I don’t now how real or fake it is, but who knows. Money talks.”

“I already got my California license, and I’m getting my Nevada license right now for boxing. If they’re gonna let McGregor box, I’m gonna be boxing, too. I’mma get in on that.”

There you have it. Diaz also said in the interview that he’s looking for a “big deal fight”, and that he’s not waiting for McGregor, since he already “beat him twice.” Chances are McGregor and his legions of fans don’t see it the same way..
