Even if you are not a fan of Tom Jones’ music, you most likely know who he is or have heard at least one of his songs. The singer rose to fame in the 1960s, became an international star, and was also a big-time heartthrob.

What’s truly great about his story is that despite the glitter and glam, and fast-paced world of music entertainment, one thing always remained.

Jones’ marriage to his wife Melinda (better known as Linda).

After a battle with cancer, Linda Jones passed away. She and Tom had been married for 59 years.

Wow!

They met when they were 12 and were married at 16. Jones said once it would be hard to continue performing if he lost her:

“She’s the most important thing in my life.”

“An unbelievable woman. Linda is the love of my life and she still is, even though she doesn’t look like she did. I don’t look like I did, either, but I try my best.”

Sir Tom Jones received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for “services to music” in 2006. And, his wife became Lady Linda. Jones has had thirty-six Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom and 19 in the United States; some of his notable songs include “It’s Not Unusual,” “What’s New Pussycat,” “Green, Green Grass of Home,”and “She’s a Lady.”

Were you a fan of Tom Jones? What do you think about a entertainment world marriage that lasts almost 60 years?
