Four burglars learned the hard way that they’d picked the wrong home to rob when they broke into a California house at 10am on Tuesday. They had no idea an LAPD officer was sleeping inside it.

According to ABC 7, the officer confronted two of the four suspects and opened fire, hitting both of them. One of the robbers was shot in the leg, and the other was shot in the leg and stomach.

The two other suspects were reportedly outside the home, and they grabbed one of their injured counterparts and drove him to the hospital. The fourth suspect, who was shot in the leg, collapsed in the driveway of the home. A neighbor rushed over to help him.

“All I saw him was with the gun drawn on top of the guy. He called for help, and I went over and helped him out,” said Dr. William Loskta.

That suspect is in stable condition at the hospital, while the other injured suspect is still in critical condition. The police have revealed that all four suspects were juveniles aged between 15 and 17 years of age. The officer who defended his home has been identified as a 29-year veteran of the force who works as a supervisor at the West Bureau. He was not injured in this incident.
