Many of us use artificial sweeteners to cut back on calories. But, we might be better off taking the calories than reaching for that yellow pack of Splenda, which is the brand name for sucralose

A study published by the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health points to a link between sucralose and leukemia and other cancers. Mice that consumed Sucralose developed these cancers.

Nutrition watchdog Center for Science in the Public Interest is recommending people avoid using sucralose for this reason. Splenda was billed as a safe alternative to sugar, so this will be a big issue on their brand.

Bloating, diarrhea and gas are also side effects of splenda usage. With all these repercussions to using this artificial sweetener, I think I will just return to using sugar. Sugar is only 15 calories a teaspoon. I’ll take 15 calories rather than these other consequences. I don’t need a disclaimer with my cup of coffee.

Do you use Splenda? Will this change your sweetener habits? Please share your thoughts.
