The feud between Fox News and Donald Trump heated up this week when the GOP frontrunner announced he would no longer be appearing on tonight’s debate, seemingly due to the fact that Megyn Kelly has been hired to moderate it.

Though Kelly was reported in the press as the reason for Trump’s boycott, The Donald has now revealed that this actually has nothing to do with her. Instead, he boycotting the debate because of the disrespect he has suffered at the hands of Fox.

“It was the childishly written and taunting PR statement by Fox that made me not do the debate,” he wrote on Twitter, according to Breitbart. “More so than lightweight reporter, Megyn Kelly.”

The statement in question was released by Fox in response to a Trump Twitter poll that asked his supporters if he should attend the debate.

“We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings,” the statement read.

The statement was widely criticized for it’s obviously hostile tone.

“I would tell them to go to hell a lot faster than Donald Trump,” said MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, adding that he would rather “set myself on fire” than appear at a debate held by a network that issued that statement.
